You will contribute across a wide range of manufacturing activities in the machine shop and have the opportunity to:

  • Work to high tolerances producing parts for production solutions
  • Complete first-run and sample work pieces, including verifying settings by measuring positions
  • Use manual lathes to produce parts to a high standard
  • Apply a continuous improvement mind-set, helping improve operations and efficiency

ABOUT YOU

  • Wide breadth of production experience, including manual machining, welding and fabrication.
  • Experience or exposure in pre-production environments where you have completed first-run, sample, and one-off work pieces.
  • Good work attitude and happy to lend a hand wherever needed in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
  • Have a safe approach to engineering & manufacturing processes, ensuring compliance with quality, safety, and other regulations.

Fabrication Supervisor – Engineering Workshop

  • Lead and coach team of fabricators to improve performance.
  • Train and develop direct reports to improve their leadership and management skills
  • Run regular toolbox meetings
  • Lead initial investigations and by example in health & safety
  • Induct new employees to the workshop

 

What you’ll bring:

  • Strong team leadership/ supervisory experience within a range of production workshops.
  • Welding and fabrication experience essential.
  • Knowledge of engineering standards.
  • Ability to read and understand technical drawings to breakdown production and manufacturing into sequences and timelines.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills essential
  • Excellent relationship builder ensuring open communication as well as cooperation and integration of production elements.

Company overview:

This is a small, yet strong, viable business. The company’s MD has been torn between this and another he runs, hence needing you to step in and take over the lead. The success of the business is repeat customers, encompassing farms, lifestyle blocks, residential properties, industrial buildings, small bridges and retaining walls.

 

Your role:

With sound experience leading small earthworks projects, you’ll have accountability for the overall health, growth and sustainability of the business, with support from, and in consultation with, the MD.

  • Maintain and develop a strong employee and contractor base.
  • Develop existing client relationships, ensuring retention and growth.
  • Focus on new areas of aligned business opportunities and develop relationships with 1st tier civil construction companies, resulting in rural subcontracts.
  • Ensure projects are completed on time, to specification, and of a high quality.
  • Complete accurate job estimates and quotes, within agreed timeframes, and maintain regular invoicing, including retentions and variation claims, in consultation with the Office Manager.
